Fonio is an ancestral cereal cultivated for more than 7,000 years in West Africa. For a long time considered a food of the humblest, today it is recovering its value and gaining space in specialized stores and healthy diets all over the world.

Naturally gluten-free and rich in essential nutrients, fonio contains a high concentration of minerals such as iron, zinc and magnesium, as well as essential amino acids, making it an excellent choice for people with gluten intolerance or celiac disease.

This cereal is also very resistant and hardy: it grows in poor, sandy or stony soils and withstands both drought and heavy rains. Thanks to this resistance, fonio is a key food for food security in several regions of the Sahel.

In cooking, its fine and light grains are easy to prepare. Fonio is consumed in the form of couscous, porridge, or as an accompaniment to savory or sweet dishes.
